Frequently Asked Questions

1. I want to try the club out, can I just turn up one night?

It is worth contacting us before turning up via the email address above to check if we have spaces available for the club night you wish to attend. Due to increasing popularity of the club we had to set membership limits to avoid overcrowding, and now have waiting lists for both our tuesday and thursday club nights.

2. How much does it cost to join the club?

Membership is organised on a termly basis (every three months) and the membership fees are determined by the club treasurer at the start of each term. Membership fees are posted on our facebook group at the start of each term and we prefer members to pay by bank transfer, however we also accept cash on a club night if payed directly to the treasurer.

3. Does the club have insurance?

Yes. Our public liability insurance is provided by 'Protectivity Insurance Ltd'.

 4. Can I pay as I play/ drop in?

If there are spaces available then we do accept visitors on a pay to play basis. Guest visitors are limited to a maximum of 3 visits per term, before you have to decide whether you wish to become a club member. 

Visitors are normally charged £5.00 per evening.

Membership fees for players joining partway through a term will be determined by the treasurer, however will be nominally calculated on a pro rata basis plus a small admin fee.

Similarly, members who have paid a one night a week membership fee may attend a maximum of three sessions on their non-subscription club night (for a visitors fee).

5. What are the playing times?

The club has use of the Sports Hall on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Thursdays. We play all year round (though in the winter during the league season some Friday courts are used for matches), only missing a few sessions due to school closures, e.g. around christmas.

6. How many courts do you play on?

The club normally plays on 4 courts - apart from the Friday summer club which is 2 courts.

7. What type of shuttlecocks do you play with?

The club normally uses Yonex Mavis 300 plastic shuttles.

8. How are the games organised during the evening? 

You will normally play some mixed doubles (men and women) and some non-mixed doubles during the course of the evening. We don't normally play singles to ensure everyone gets to play as many games as possible. 

9. Are there changing rooms and shower facilities?

Yes. Both venues have separate changing rooms with showers for men and women.

11. What age are the majority of your members?

We have a wide mix of members from early 20's upwards.

12. What should I wear/bring?

Wear clothes you feel comfortable in and are able to move about in along with non-marking sports shoes. If you have a racket please bring it along otherwise the club has a few spare rackets which can be borrowed. We will supply the shuttlecocks.

13. Do you play any league matches against other clubs?

We currently enter three mens doubles, two mixed doubles and one ladies team in the leamington district league. Home matches are played on fridays, and there is a match fee of £5 per player for home and away matches. League players are expected to be members of the club.

14. Do you have socials?

Yes. The club secretary organises regular social activities. The friendly social nature of the club also means there are adhoc visits to the pub after club night, and nights out.

15. Do I have to be an experienced badminton player to join?

No. We accept all ability levels, over the years a significant proportion of our members have started having never played previously and as such we are all very patient and happy to teach new players.
